Levasseur cancelled his participation in the Manchester Ink Link debate

MANCHESTER, NH — I don’t think many people were surprised that Joe Kelly Levasseur skipped out on Manchester Ink Link’s Alderman at Large debate. Levasseur sent an email message to the online news and information site Wednesday, the day of the debate.

“I have decided not to debate and take up any time from the newcomers vying for incumbents seats, but instead to allow the three that are running to have more air time to let people know where they stand on issues. It’s great so many are running for office.”

Does anyone actually believe that line?

Manchester Ink Link founder Carol Robidoux has been viciously attacked by Levasseur on his Facebook page over the years. The idea that Levasseur, whom former Manchester Alderman Phil Greazzo once described as a “pathological liar,” would subject himself to questions fielded from the general public by Manchester Ink Link — rather than him being tossed softballs from admirers calling in to his own public access TV show or posting on his Facebook page, forums that he can control — was hard to believe.

Is a Bully Always a Coward?

“A known liar, especially a Pathological liar, no matter who, should not be involved with any decision making on city business.” — Phil Greazzo on Joseph Kelly Levasseur, Feb. 18, 2014

There’s an old maxim I have heard applied to Joe Kelly Levasseur by Manchester political insiders more than once: “A bully is always a coward.”

Personally, I don’t think that’s true: The bully is always a coward, part of the old proverb.

Executive Councilor Ted Gatsas was a bully’s bully when he was Mayor of Manchester, but no one would ever call him a coward.

Joe Kelly Levasseur hardly in Gatsas’s weight class politically. First and foremost, Levasseur lacks the balls to run for mayor. And he lacks the courage to go in front of a public forum.

Ted Gatsas had the heart of a lion — a man-eating lion at that — whereas with Joe Levasseur, the animal of the savannah that comes to mind is hyena.

As for those who cited the “bully is always a coward” saw about Levasseur, I have to admit I don’t disagree.

As I said: I don’t think many people were surprised that Joe Kelly Levasseur skipped out on Manchester Ink Link’s Alderman at Large debate. I think more people, including myself, were surprised that he had agreed to be in the debate in the first place.

There’s another proverb that comes to mind, when considering the actions Joseph Kelly Levasseur: A coward is always a coward. That’s a maxim that, in Joe’s case, always proves true.
